I never did too badly out of a grammar school education. I'm no Oxbridge graduate, university wasn't for me, and it took a painful couple of years for me to realise this, and if a pissing contest over who is at the best university is to be used the sole benchmark of academic success, then we're all in trouble. So many graduates I've worked alongside are illiterate and have such poor numeracy standards, it's staggering.
