Review from the BBC.

Quote:

Singer/ songwriter/ guitarist Amy Macdonald may still be a teenager but it’s hard to believe her music will ever appeal to her peers. Like Joss Stone, Macdonald has an old voice on her young shoulders. That’s not to say you should dismiss This Is The Life if you’re under 40, but you will need a more mature ear to relate to Amy’s folk-styled storytelling, grown-up vocal and country-influenced guitar.

The young Glaswegian may be currently heralded as 'the new Katie Melua' but there’s something more Cranberries-esque to her warbling. This is highlighted on her debut LP’s first track, “Mr Rock & Roll”- a radio-friendly, sing-a-long jig, full of Celtic campfire nostalgia. Moving on to the album title track, lyrically Macdonald comes across like a wise 39-year-old as opposed to a naïve 19-year-old, leading you to question the authenticity of her delivery. In other words, the words and tone feel somewhat forced.

Gripes aside, there are some gleaming gems to be discovered on this 11-tracker. “Let’s Start A Band” hears a Mexican cowboy intro makes way for Amy to unleash her emotive tones and brilliant lyrics: 'Give me a stage and I’ll be your rock ‘n roll Queen/ Your 20th Century cover of a magazine/ Rolling Stone, here I come/ Watch out everyone…'.
Further notables include the upbeat, brass-heavy roller, “Barrowland Ballroom” and the melodic “A Wish For Something More”- which allows Macdonald to work her vocal to its full range while highlighting her razor-sharp guitar wizardry. The star of the show though has to be down-tempo number “Footballer’s Wife” on which Amy mocks today’s tabloid-fuelled society.

First quote- Eh??? I'm 21 and i like it! Stupid thing to put in a review. You don't have to be a certain age to like a certain music. One of my favourite bands ever is The Doors- and i'm not 50 like most other people who like them! Stupid BBC!!

And, Katie Melua? I'm not even going to point out what's wrong with that statement! *coughs* songwriter... *cough cough*

I don't like this review. It doesn't even mention Run- best song on the album by a stretch! I do like the album, but my review of this review is that it's pretty useless!!

I only remembered about her from when I got an e-mail today from Ticketmaster saying, "Don't miss Amy MacDonald"... I was like, "What the hell?" and wondering if it was the same Amy MacDonald that used to come on here and sure enough it was! That's crazy how she's all big now, already played Glastonbury and T.

I remember she came on here ripping on KT Tunstall once because she was bitter for not being just as big. Well now she is! (Well, not quite as big- yet... but I'm sure she will be soon enough.)

Before they closed the old board, i found the thread where she was giving off about Pete Doherty, and she said she had just written a song called 'Poison Prince'. I've saved it, so i'll send it to anyone who's interested

Just got This is the life' and playing it for the first time. Really enjoying it. The 1st 3 tracks especially transported me back to the Liquid Rooms

The album was playing in Borders today, so I thought it must be positioned someowhere prominent in the store - I was wrong, and I couldn't even find it listed in the Rock 'n Pop A-Z section.
Weird.

I got my album through from HMV (i pre-ordered it) and it was signed- so that surprised me. Don't know if it's genuine like, but anyway.

Still not listened to the CD yet either
