[Edit: I just read the history pages on your Oktoberfest's homepage and...excuse me...but there's nothing(!) about why "Oktoberfest" exists in the first place ;) ]

Well, it says this:

Cincinnati wrote:

the original Oktoberfest was held this very weekend in 1810 as a celebration of the marriage of Prince Ludwig I and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen.

Haha, I don't know how accurate or comprehensive that is though. Looks like they haven't updated those pages in a while, the link to Munich doesn't work anymore.

I'll be there the 23rd, hopefully! It'll be my first one. Quite looking forward to it! :)

Stop by the booth shaped like a pretzel. That was my favorite when I was a kid. My step-dad and I placed in a polka contest there once. Haha, Good times. I never participated in the chicken dance though.

(if you want to do that in the "real Octoberfest" style, you should say "a Mass, bitte", or "No a Mass!" if you already had a beer (in case of pronunciation difficulties, please see: http://www.lowenbraubeer.com/fun_german101.html (Löwenbräu is a horrible beer, by the way)) ;-)
