She seems talented, but I think she's trying a bit too hard to get in the spirit of the 60s. What's up with all these musicians trying to be like artists in the past? Why can't we hear something new?!
I think she's trying to sound like the lead singer of Jefferson's Airplane. Listen to White Rabbit and tell me does she not sound like the lead singer? http://youtube.com/watch?v=AVER6hyoyJo
Also, I'm sure she's nice and friendly as some of you say, but how does that relate to her music? That's like someone saying OJ simpson killed his wife and the other saying, but he's a great football player, what's the correlation? Ok maybe bad analogy, but yeah..lol |

Maybe she's not trying to sound like anyone, maybe that's simply the way she sings ...?

Maybe thats a lot of shite. You listen to her real speaking voice which is a standard alto come soprano glasweigan accent, scottish, feminine, female voice. You listen to her sing, numbing her 'r' sounds, singing about a 6th below what would be natural, if not, closer to an octave, singing with the back of hr throat and her nose, rather than her lungs and diphragm and useing the front of her mouth to form the legato and dynamics etc that any normal singer would. Shes 'found a sound', its the fakest daftest thing I've ever heard - she sounds Irish/Icelandic becuase of her crazy pronounciation.
Thats like saying that retard, Mika or whatever his effin' name is 'simply sings like that, and isn't trying to', or the BeeGees, or Queen.
Damn that Mika or whatever his effin' name is - drives me friggin nuts - NO ONE CAN TOLERATE THAT MUCH FALSCETOO IN ONE SONG THAT DOESNT EVEN MAKE SENSE!!! |

Yeah, maybe it is. I've had a listen to a few tracks now and the sound definitely comes from her throat rather than her diaphragm, which will play havoc with her throat after a while :s

Its way too common these days - I don't know if people think its cool or effective or what - I honestly don't know but its like its become popular. It REALLY makes me want to vomit.
Its like that Christine Aguillera or whatever her effin' name is - what is it? "I am beautiful" or whatever.
Its such a dull song to start with, even if it was sung well, its just SO common these days (I'm not saying Amy Mac does THIS necessarily) to use notes that are literally one in front of the other, with no more than a 2 or 3 note jump, and it seems any more than that, they simply HAVE to move into falscetto (Mika, Queen - even Closer in Travis)
And whats the result of using the back of your throat so that stepwise runs into legato, and using notes so close to each other?
PURE AND UTTER MONOTONY!!!
And Breathe.... :D |

And there's me hoping you'd have a semi-intelligent comeback to that. Ah well, win some lose some. Anyway...
Yeah. Legal proceedings are underway because he gave me ear cancer. The bastard |

1. Would you guys be being as venomous if she was still regular posting on the board,?? i.e. How many of you have been this nasty about Paul's songs (btw sorry Paul just using yourself as an example, no offence mate)
2. At least she 's out there attempting something, While we sit around on our fat arses on the internet bitching and moaning about anyone who even slightly doesn't conform to what we like.
3. I think most of you have crossed the line here between constructive criticism and plain fucking nastiness. There is nothing wrong with a bit of commenting, but that is not an excuse to be as fucking hurtful as you guys are being, can you imagine reading tis about yourselves??
btw I personally am not a fan, but thought these points needed raised |

I think what I said, specifically my second last post up there, was very constructive and to the point of musical technicalities...
I've heard paul's and he already knows what I think...
If you're gonna try and get into the music world, as many of us know (some from experience) one of the most improtant things is to be able to take critisism as well as compliments.
Would you be saying this if we went on and on about how wonderful she is, all the great points with no negatives. putting her on a high pedastall?
Weve all already mentioned that we think shes in general a nice enough girl, some of us love her music (as you'll read) and some of us really REALLY don't - only about 60% of this thread has been about her actual music.
Nothing has been said about her as a person other than she seems nice, and rather than saying "its shite" I personally have made a point of commenting musically.
I do the same thing with Travis songs I don't like.
Its a big world with people full of opinions.
And in answer to your first question - yes I would. (Evidence of this behaviour can be found in the thread called 'myspace' if you look for it) |
