situation: I want to buy "conte crayons" in an art store here in the Netherlands
I've tried to use an online language translator with this and it's only translating each word at a time. I live in the Netherlands and i don't know what to look for if i want to buy some conte crayons. I only know that's what we call them in English... anyone know in Dutch? They're not the same as pastels. My boyfriend doesn't know because he doesn't know much about art, so i can't ask him. If anyone knows another name for these please share! A similar alternative would be fine, i just don't want soft pastels.
Thanks! |

| By Conte crayons do you mean wax crayons, like Crayola crayons? If so, you could ask for Wassene Kleurpotloden I think. |

| no, they're not like the ones that kids color with... they're like a piece of charcoal or chalk, kind of powdery, and they come in a few different colors. |

They've got added wax or clay or something like that, haven't they? So yeah, they're different to pastels. Absolutely no clue what they're called in Dutch. Is it the word "Conté" that's giving you trouble?

| Could you not just, like, burn some matches and use those? Add some food colouring to vary the colours? |

I once tried going to the local art shop and getting some but all the boxes of stuff are in Dutch (which i can't read well) and i know for sure there wasn't any "conte crayon" and the women in that store are always kind of older and they barely speak English. I suppose i'll have to give it another try. |

if there's an art school where you live, try to meet a couple of students and ask them about it. Conte crayons are famous !

Actually 'conte' isn't the brand name, it's just named after a guy who made it. I was looking on Amazon and Cretacolor makes some, and i think Prisma makes some... but i'd rather not have to pay shipping |
