Q for the health conscious - how many of you actually eat the right quota of fruit and veg each day?
Are you supposed to have 5 of each (ten things a day) or just 5 in total? How the hell do you get a 3 and an 8 yr old to accomplish this?
BTW, someone told me that peas are NOT vegetables - so what on earth are they then????? |

From what i understand it's 5 total a day.
I have about 3 or 4 (morning - morning snack-lunch-gouter) and buy small quantities of each so that it's not boring.
it also requieres quite a budget...
I know i have a booklet about it - bought it at the newsagent a while ago and found it very useful. I shall look for it and give you the details - it's from a french health government body if i'm not mystaken.

Here they say it's six a day, but that's only cos it's a play on words - it could also be perceived as 'sex every day' :o)
Anyhow, I think that a glass of orange juice equals one item. Two glasses don't equal two items though.
I also find that it's easier to get people to eat the healthy stuff if it's cut out in bite-sized bits. Obviously, it also takes more work.
I think that I fulfil my quota most days but not every day, especially weekends. |

PMSL, You're very good at eating the 6 a day. We struggle with the 5-a-day ( prob manage about 3) and I'm bored of the same veg cooked the same way. I've tried cookery books but it takes ages to prepare - on hols now so not much of a problem but when I work, ahhhh! |

i'm wearing my gym kit now and just had eggs - will be off in about 10 minues or so. Well, i remember saying the same thing yesterday and staying in front of the compy the whole day..lol
I do power-walk (i walk real fast for 30 mins - 3 times a week) but i'm totally out of shape.
I don't gain weight but being out of shape really bothers me.
Thank God it's raining i don't have to wear my swimsuit !!! |

The easiest way is to eat some apples, bananas, pears or whatever during the day, I think.
And just so that no one gets me wrong, the 'six a day' is just a play on words, unfortunately! |

hmmm. so i get potatos in my fries from Burger King and/or Wendy's, that's vegetables,
i get lettuce & onions on my triple cheese burger from Burger King and/or Wendy's, that's more vegetables - frickin' hate sliced tomatoes though, they scare me they get picked off along with the cucumbers *shudders*
i get sugar from the king-sized and/or biggie soda so that's my fruit covered.
so yeah i think i'm on the right track.
