When you think of a bonfire, do you think of this?

or do you think of this?

That is 6 storeys high, and went up last night. It's in the Ballycraigy estate in Antrim. Houses last night had to be cooled, because this happened...

You can see the sheer size of this explosion by comparing it to the size of the houses and lamposts near by. Although it's tradition for their community, i think it's disgraceful the amount of waste and pollution these bonfires cause. They've gotten way out of hand over the last few years!

it's crazy isn't it.
i was watching kids on the news nearly falling from a three storey tyre&pallets bonfire somewhere else.
think of all that spitting burning rubber too-it's bloody mental-it's like an emergency waiting to happen.

That's crazy. In this country, we usually have bonfires on Midsummer evening, ie 23 June. You wouldn't believe how many rules there are as to the size of bonfires and how close they can be to houses. Are there no such rules in NI? Or don't they give a f*ck?

It's like 'the bigger, the better'. But putting houses and lifes to risk like that is just crazy.

There are rules, but if you say anything to them about it, that's you tied to the flagpole at the top!

Right I see. That's not the way to spend a bonfire night, really. Especially not if you get tied to a pole anywhere near that bonfire!

It sucks that i've only been able to wait after at 1 gig of the last 4. Just so many reasons not to (like 2 exams the day after Barrowlands!) and that's why i've taken to going earlier instead. It was a great laugh that day in the queue, as i'm sure various people can vouch for :)
