Question for the Scots

While at the vet I was flipping through a book about catlore. It said that in Scotland there is a tradition that when a family gets a new house they throw the cat through the door before they enter the new house.

I was just wondering if this is a real tradition (not necessarily one that YOU have done). It reminded me of a tradition in the US (and I think other places?) a groom carries his bride over the threshold. It's not something everyone does but it is at least true.

And they made it sound like this is a current practice, not from the 1600s.

Never heard of it, although Cats are supposed to be have E.S.P. so maybe if you threw the cat in and it boltedstraight back out it was not a good sign

I had a sense that it was dog bullocks (or maybe cat ones). Probably was true 400 years ago but it said it was a "modern" tradition.
