I was downtown doing an errand for work and I parked on the street very close to the crosswalk. I looked up and saw the light was red and so I started going across without really looking.

I wasn't in the crosswalk (but very close to it) and suddenly I felt a car grazing my body. I also felt a tire about to run over my foot but I was able to move it and so it just scraped my toe (I am wearing sandals and I think that actually helped because I felt it all quicker and therefore could react quicker)and then my hip hit the side mirror.

I was very confused, wasn't sure how I had just gotten grazed by a car. There was an old man driving, looking quite shocked himself. I just half-heartedly waved and went across. I then looked at my toe and saw that it was red and looks like I have rug burn (or rubber burn I guess).

Now that the adrenaline has worn off my hip is a little sore but more I am just tired and feel a little dazed from my hormonal rush. I am so thankful I wasn't really hurt and upon reflection even though I walked into his lane, he was going REALLY fast for coming to a red light. And he didn't even roll down his window to ask if I was OK.

Glad you're okay...same thing happened to me crossing except I was already in the cross walk and got hit. I wasn't even hurt though...just kind of flew up on the hood of the car. Got off and ran away as I was late to catch a bus back to college.

Remember...look left, right then left again (reverse for you folks in the U.K.)...even at a crosswalk.

It's good that you're ok and didn't get hurt any more!

Yikes. Close call. I can't say that has happened to me before. Odd/rude that the driver didn't say anything. Good thing you are fine!

Glad you are okay! I used to work at the local university here for quite a few years. I once saw a student get hit in the crosswalk. They got up and walked away from it, but it was still pretty scarey to see. I'm sure it's no fun being on the receiving end of that. That's lame the guy didn't even check to see that you were alright. :P

That's pretty nuts. Yeah, I think I more freaked out about how bad it could have been. I am usually so good at looking but there is hardly ever traffic coming from that direction and it was quiet so I was relying on what I wasn't hearing to assure me there weren't any cars coming.

Very sad but a friend of mine was doing a show in London and his girlfriend came to visit. She was going to watch him one night and either didn't look at all or looked the wrong way and got hit by a bus. She ended up passing away a few days later. When I was in London a few years ago I was obsessively looking every direction even if it the direction of traffic was super obvious because I kept thinking of her.

Personally I think close calls are a warning from above.
