Hey everyone. As the Music Correspondant for my student magazine, i want to write a general article about something to do with music. I've already written previews for the bands that are playing freshers, but now i want to do a big 'article'.
I want it to be a sort of topical discussion or opinionated piece about the music industry. I've thought about stuff like 'why music festivals aren't about the music' and 'the charts are crap', but i thought they'd be a little basic.
Anyone any ideas??? |

That would be the corporatisation of music... why Ska is no longer Ska, Punk is no longer Punk, Emo is Goth marketed to a load of people who all look the same while trying to be individual, but most of all why Hip-Hop is no longer Grandmaster Flash but some bint whining on about how she can't get a man. That goes for fucking R&B too R&B is NOT some teenage black tart trying to sound soulful, That would be hmmmm.... let me think here, how about Soul ya fuckwit!! R&B was Zeppelin, Cream, The Yardbirds, Dr Feelgood, The Blues Brothers or even more recently The White Stripes.

nice rant dubz...i'm glad you distinguish the difference between hip hop and rap...i've been listening to my favorite hip hop artist for the past two days now: Common....with a little mos def thrown in here and there! haha...my friend and i were discussing that whole 'emo' scene a few weeks ago...everything gets labeled emo nowadays! i don't get how a band wearing makeup is considered emo?? |
