First of all it's fucking racist, if I had a music of white origin award they'd all be screaming you can't exclude blacks so what's the fucking difference.
Secondly All music is folk music originally whether it's black, white purple, pink or fucking polkadot.
thirdly you think your the only fuckers to be oppressed, two fucking words "bonded service" there were English, Irish, Scots and many other European Slaves, it wasn't just an African thing.

Don't hold your feelings in Dubs. It's not good for you.
First, what are the MOBO awards? Second, I generally agree with you. You could apply this to any group that is not white male. I've never gotten a reasonable answer as to why it's OK to celebrate the roots/culture of this group or that group but if you are white it's as if you don't have any roots. |

Oh dear. Some points.
1 - 'Music of black origin' does NOT necessarily mean music BY black people, or music FOR for black people.
2 - Joss Stone & Amy Winehouse, world famous non-black musicians, both nominated for awards. Previous winners include Mick Hucknall and Eminem.

So, every other award ceremony in the wide world then? Classic example, Craig David nominated for 6 Brits, won none, utterly shunned, and everyone would have expected him to get at least one.
Black artists rarely get a look-in at other awards ceremonies, if they want to have their own little shindig, I can't see how that hurts anyone here who has posted against the MOBO's. |

It doesn't hurt me, though I think that the major point of Dubz' post were double standards- you can create "black music awards" and that's ok, but don't you dare to say "white music" because that would make you a racist. It's like making the same colour bars but in a different way.
And of course, white artist are still in a majority, which is an effect of a longtime politics (shameful, without a doubt), but you can't say people of a different ethnic background are not allowed today to be succesful and get awards- Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Jay-Z etc are the classic examples. |

i don't buy that at all, look at the VMA's that had a pretty fair split of black and white musicians winning. if your music is good enough you will win awards regardless of colour

So, why has it taken til 2002 for a black woman to win best actress at the Oscars, and why have only 12 African-Americans ever won lead or supporting role Oscars?
Is there a real lack of talented black actors?
Are these facts representative of a lack of talent?
Or are they disproportionate? |

I don't dispute that there is racism in the world. Of course there are talented people of every race and unfortunately African Americans don't get recognized as much. You could also argue that they don't get as good as roles to show off their acting chops.
And the MOBO awards do not effect my life at all.
But I still do agree with the point that there is a double standard. Even if it's in favor of a community that is regularly snubbed or overlooked. What I wonder about is if we're so busy celebrating our differences and honoring different cultures, then there is still a lot of separating of said communities and cultures and we're still not all learning to get along.
I don't know if that makes sense. It's hard to get out what I mean without writing an essay. |
