As far as I know, the former Burma is now called Myanmar, and it has been for years. So why do the media (e.g. the Beeb) keep calling it Burma or Myanmar (the former Burma)? Is this for political reasons because Myanmar is associated with a dictatorship? Does anyone know?
EDIT: They also call the capital Rangoon even if its official name is Yangon.

ooohhh feeling a little rebellious, are we? lol
Maybe old habits are just hard to change, or maybe it is indeed the political aspect that makes people refuse to use Myanmar. |

I like wearing red and other colours, so I'm glad no one's gonna tell me off :o)
Having said that, I'm wearing a black cardigan today. Oh, and guess what: it's a plain and simple black cardigan that I found in H&M! I really had to think of you when I bought it lol |

| I thought it was ignorance too, but apparently the UK doesn't recognise the legitimacy of the regime that changed the name. |

Ah, I thought there might be political reasons for this. Here in Denmark, they keep saying Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, etc. |

Yes I think you did tell me that you found one eventually. It's quite amazing though how impossible it is to find simple, black cardigans. |

woohhh not a very good marketing idea for Zara ! Actually there was something in the news a while ago about a shopkeeper in India who had the swastika on his shop front and was asked to remove it...... shame that this Hindu symbol was 'stolen' by the Nazis |
