I'm probably the only person in the world who is curious about this. I apologize. But I'm hoping some kind lad or lass on the other side of the pond will indulge my nerdy inquiry.
I listen to Virgin Radio sometimes online and there was a commercial/PSA of these two ladies talking and one asks about how the other's relationship is going with Joe (or whatever the hell his name is) and she says, "well, he's moving in with me!"
Then an announcer says something about when you have lifestyle changes you have to report this change for tax purposes.
Not quite sure, I only heard it once. But do you have to keep the government informed of your living situations for tax purposes? How do relationships affect your taxes?
Here you don't get penalized or credit until you're married. Before that, you're on your own. |

Diffent things for different parts of the UK, you can be co-habiting, commonlaw husband/wife, fully married and various other states of affair,
Interestingly in Scotland if you live with someone it's take as Common Law that you're living as married and you have to prove you aren't but in England Wales it's the opposite even if you are living together you have to prove you are in a relationship similar to marriage.
Probably makes it no clearer but...

Yup, cohabiting changes your tax liability.
And isn't that one of the most awful adverts on commercial radio??? The dramatic equivalent of paint drying! :) |

Some of it's crap, some of it's good. I enjoy hearing stuff that hasn't made it over here yet (some of it never does). I also get a kick out adverts that feature someone doing an American accent. It's usually bad, at least to my ears. I imagine it would be the same here if you heard some faking an English accent. |
