Crazy man encounter while waiting with drums, part 2

OK so Friday I was guarding drums and had a poem recited to me by a homeless man who also showed me his "12 rubbers." This is the only part of the gig my band had last night that I would like to remember:

Setting: Curb outside Mozart's deck. Standing with Mark (bassist) and Jana (singer). A guy walks up, looks at drums.

Guy: Are you guys the roadies?

Mark: Uh, no, we're just watching these while our friend gets his car.

Guy: Oh. Who's the band?

Jana: We're the band.

Guy: Oh really? When are you going to play?

Mark: We already did, we're finished.

Guy: Oh man, I'm sad I missed it. I'd really love to be a part of something like that.

Jana/Mark/Anne: Oh.

Guy: So could I be in the band?

(silence. Anne trying not to laugh. Mark looking like he isn't sure whether he is about to have to flex his muscles to get rid of him. Jana looks dumbfounded)

Jana: Did you hear us play?

Guy: No.

(awkward silence as we are all unsure what to do or say.)

Guy: I'd at least like the opportunity to audition.

(more silence)

Anne: We have a MySpace page.

Guy: Cool. I have a Sharpie and a piece of paper.

(takes out key chain which has mini Sharpie on it. Jana writes down the site address)

Jana: So what's your name?

Guy: I'm James. (holds out hand, we all shake and say our names)

Guy: Yeah, I'll try and find a computer where I can log in. It's getting harder and harder these days.

Jana: mmm.

Anne: So what do you play?

James: Violin. So much so that I can't hardly feel the tips of my fingers.

Anne: Huh. Wow.

James: So myspace.com/janaanne

Jana: No, it says janawray

James: Jana? I've never heard that name before. What kind of name is that?

Jana: It's my name.

Kevin pulls up and we use the loading of drums as our excuse to not talk to him anymore.

LOL. I tell ya, the crazies seem to just find me. You should be safe over in France though.

Oh, and I was telling the bassist about the homeless guy from Friday and he said that guy has approached him downtown as well to share his poem. Apparently he also has a song. But just like with me he was giving himself mad props after his song or poem. With my friend though he asked if he thought the song was worth anything, some sort of donation. Of course.

That would be hysterical!! Jana did say that if he actually wrote us a message through the myspace page that I would be answering it.

hehehe... He just wants to be in a band, poor boy. Who cares what kind of music the bands plays or whether a violin fits in, when he's been practising so hard?

LOL. He enjoys it.

Hanne, yeah his fingertips are numb so I guess he is practicing. I just love that he wants to blindly join a band.

At least the band would have a passionate member, albeit a member who also needs to practice his social skills.
