...at the moment?
It's horrible, isn't it? Tiresome, exhausting, ...
The seemingly endless search and then: writing cover letters and CVs...
I f***ing HATE advertising myself *argh* (though I've realised that it's easier to write cover letters in a language that's NOT my mother tongue.)
Similar thoughts, anyone? ;) |

Thanks!
I'm "only" looking for a work placement/internship abroad at the moment - stupid thing, but I have to do this before I can finally write my finals and start looking for a real job.
Six months... I know people who've been looking for a job for a year without success (seems that German companies want graduates to be experienced in everything and anything...)
*sighs* |

First of all: practising my English. I'm not expecting much, it's more to (and I quote my professors) "experience living in another cultural area" and to gain insight into another working environment. (I'm studying International Cultural & Business Studies)
I'm writing the cover letter for a placement at a research institute in Bristol at the moment. The offer sounds great, they'd even be a remuneration...I just hate advertising my "skills", no idea if I would invite myself for an interview after reading my application ;) |

It totally stinks. It feels so unnatural to advertise yourself and talk about your team skills. It took me about 5 months to find the job I have (after staying home for 5 years so I was a hard sell) so I know how old it gets.
Good luck! |

Been there. Done that. I had to find a placement in Spain. It definately has to go up in the list on shitty things, right next to buying insurance.
What's more, I'll have to find another placement in a yar or so.
It's definately easier to write a cover letter in a foreign language, as you can cover your muck-ups by showing that you can write (more or less) in a foreign language. |

I'm annoyed at the job market over here and from employers feedback : "you're great but we need someone like you 10 years younger".
Like they couldn't see it on the bloody resume.
One thing i know is my ability to bullshit in english - something i'm not good at in french. |

Also very annoying: They tell us, it's a good thing doing internships, but companies don't usually pay interns a decent salary (if there is a remuneration at all)
Oh goodie, and you've got to do another one? I did one last year in Germany, and I was paid for it - but it's so tiresome to apply for the stupid things...

:( oh no, they tell YOU that??? I mean, you're NOT old. Oh my god, they start telling you that in your 30s now???... My god... My mum has been looking for a job for 4 months now, and she's 57, so guess what happens every time she sends out an application... |

I'm going to rethink my strategy as i'm competing with ppl who went to better schools than me.
Also, i spent years not working (travelling and studying) and it scares employers shitless.

that's so stupid - the employers, I mean - because on the other hand they WANT employees to speak many languages, to have profound working-abroad experiences and to be university-graduates as well...
I keep my fingers crossed for you, Frederique! |
