I'll be moving to Madrid in January - only for 4 months, but still ;)
Sooo, madrileños y madrileñas del Message Board:
Any recommendations/warnings?
Where should I look for a room? And which parts of Madrid should I avoid living in?
The company I'll be working for is in the Salamanca district - according to my Madrid-guide this seems to be an "okay-area"?
Maaaaaan, I need to refresh my Spanish before I enter Spanish territory ;) |

Yeah, it's an okay-area because is one of the most expensive zones in Madrid.
I sent you a private message, but if you need more help, let me know! |

That's what I thought - I'm going to work at the Goethe Institute, and apparently it's right next to the German Embassy... But guess what: They don't pay their interns ANYthing. Not even the insurance, or food, or a metro-card, nothing...
I saw the message, thanks! (already answered it by the way*g*)

Yeah, the German Embassy is next to the Goethe Institut.
So, they don't pay you anything???? That's bad, my friend. I warn you that life in Madrid is cheaper than in any other places. If you're gonna travel by metro or bus a lot, it's better if you buy the "abono transporte". You're gonna be in Zone A, and you're adult; it'll cost you 40'45€; on the other hand, if you don't want to spend that money, you can buy the "metrobús", which you can use it on the metro and the bus; it costs 6'40€. Here you will find more information. |

Thankyou!
Did you mean it's "cheaper" or was there sth (a "not"?) missing?
Hm, 40 euro for zone A is pretty much like Munich... I wanted to try to live as "economical" as possible (I have to, anyway), so maybe I'll have to try and not use the metro every time I want to go somewhere...
But the rooms, the rooms!
The rooms seem to be much cheaper than London or even Brighton (I'd have had to pay 500 euro for a 10m² room in Brighton), but I'm just a bit concerned about the "quality" of the appartments, you know? And about the sizes of the rooms, I'm pretty sure I'll go nuts in a 7m² room ;) Oh well, I'll see...

| I meant what I said, hehe. It's cheaper. My friend in Munich told me that life is almost the same there and here. London is really, really expensive. You won't find that here ;) |

okay, I'm relieved if that's also the case with food and other stuff :) then I won't have to adjust to new prices ;)
Munich is, in inner-German comparison, one of the most expensive places in the country... Visitors from other cities aaaalways complain about our prices, but I guess that's how it is with great cities ;D

| I can't tell about food, because I have lunch and dinner at home; but I guess that there are a lot of cheap restaurant where you can eat (as we say in Spanish: good, beautiful and cheap :p) |
