Got cool plans for this evening. We're going out to dinner, then to see "It's a Wonderful Life" at a historical theater. They've been restoring it for a long time, trying to get it back to it's 1928 glory. There's a huge pipe organ that rises out of the floor that is played before the movie and at intermission. The ceiling is painted to look like a nighttime sky and when the lights go down, there are tiny little lights that look like stars, some even twinkle. Real butter on the popcorn. A balcony for smooching with your sweetie. A 50/50 raffle during intermission. All this for just $4 a ticket. Can't beat that with a stick.
My favorite time to go is at Halloween because they always show old black and white classic horror movies (Dracula, Frankenstein). And I love going to see "The Sound of Music" there because EVERYBODY sings along and I don't feel like a freak. |

It's the Old Redford Theatre, but it's not in Redford, it's in Detroit. They generally show movies twice a month, Friday nights and 2 showings on Saturdays.

Sounds great! And for only $4! I wish we had something like that in Buenos Aires.
Have a blast tonight! |

Sounds like a fantastic date. We have a similar theater in Austin. No organ though. They do shows (plays mainly) and in the summer they show classic movies almost every night. It's awesome! I've seen Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, To Kill a Mockingbird, Grease, and Doctor Zhavago (too lazy to find real spelling) there. Last summer they were showing Sound of Music but we were gone that weekend. I would love to see that on the big screen.
The Paramount

Wow! That's almost as nice as the Fox Theater in Detroit! The Redford is more modest, but they're working on it. The only drag thing about the Redford is that it's in a "not so nice" area. If you didn't know what was inside you would certainly keep driving. |

We have ugly movie theaters, too. The kind with sticky floors. |

Because people spill their drinks or drop candy and the theater workers don't clean it up. Ick! There is a theater near me that shows movies for $1. I wear my oldest shoes when I go. |

Beautiful theatres!
Last night my brother's band did a gig in this very old tiny theatre called El Victorial. It's for 150 people. Apparently it has been restored, but it still looks as if it's going to fall down any time soon... |
