I know this is heavy and a total "Debbie Downer" post but I am literally sick to my stomach over Bhutto's assassination. I just read interviews with Musharraf and her and I thought that she is their only hope. Now she's dead.

I think she was a lot more popular in Western countries than in Pakistan.

Still a dramatic piece of info though - i heard riots have started following her death.

I think your right . Old school is to take out the vocal supporters for fear of making a martyr like what happened to Aquino in the Philippines

I'm also really really really gutted...as the former Prime Minister and main opposition leader she was massively known in Pakistan, and I fear like Dubz terrible consequences. This is shite!
When she returned and after the first assasination attempt a couple of months ago...I feared this would happen eventually.

Her supporters smashed the windows of the hospital and then set fire to it.

Very humanatarian, setting fire to a fucking hospital. I don't think she was as clean cut as is being reported, especially if her supporters are capable of shit like that.

...it's not as black and white as that Dubz. In a country where terrorism and murders are more than common, those people probably expressed their despair and rage on the first thing that looked like a representation of the state...not that this is any excuse of course!
And who's really clean cut in politics?

Well... kicked out twice for corruption ?? but no further information given, western selective reporting ???

I agree tha it is a third world country and violence is probably their only outlet, but wasn't Gandhi from that area of the world? also as it is a violent, archaic country I think that is what has caused her death in the first place, trying to push things frward to quickly perhaps??

btw, I'm just doing my usual and questioning everything? and maybe being a little bit "devil's advocate" too.

We shouldn't forget also there's a reason why third world countries are third world countries, and it's not etirely their fault... (I don't mean to offend anyone, but living in a third world country gives you a very different perspective of the issue, so I can't help pointing that out).
Also, I don't see why the words "violence" and "third world countries" should have a special connection. Violence is something the entire world has in common.

Well said.
I must say i was rather annoyed to read a message calling an entire nation and its people a "thirld world country".
Loads of pakistanis are well educated, read papers...etc...and even when people have different lifestyles, religions and cultures it shall be respected and not be called "archaic".
Archaic by whose standards anyway ?

Also Gandhi was idian, not pakistani.

And there is also a reason why some countries are exactly that way, warring factions that can't sit down and work out their differences. whether it's religion, race, creed or something else equally stupid, but how do you argue with someone for example who already thinks you are below them, an infidel or inferior?

As a generalisation... people who are un-educated or under-priviledged, and there tends to be a greater proportion of them in third world countries, tend to resort to violence becaue they do not know how to express themselves or get their point of view across, this is basic human psychology.

Well excuse me? are we talking about a country that does or does not employ a caste system where it's ok, no expected to sh!t on the people below you,

How many people live below the breadline in Pakistan, more or less than the modern countries? Is there a higher percentage of literate, educated peoples??

I do respect Pakistan and by calling it archaic I was not being disrespectful merely expresing a point of view, It may have modern cities but there are still people living in slums, which in my view makes it old fashioned and therefore archaic.

And that's why I said that part of the world and not specifically India or Pakistan, if I was to use a example... I would have said Europe instead of France, Germany, England, Scotland, etc. Perhaps I should have said well Gandhi was from the Sub-continent.

You know, for some reason I thought about the two world wars, the iraqui and afghanistan wars just to mention a few... I guess we could say that developed countries in western Europe, North America and Asia got a bit carried away by the violence concentrated in third world countries.

As for the reasons for fighting a war, none is valid. But like Abs said, different cultures should be respected.

I'm wondering who could benefit from her death, apart from the obvious fact that she won't become the new prime minister.

Of course she might have been glorified by the Western media, but killing political opponents is just not right. Furthermore, she's now gonna by a martyr for some people, which might lead to even more violence in her name.

I fear the situation will get completely out of control but I'm praying for the opposite.
