Hey there, just a question: is it true that you have to get married in a town hall before it's legal?
My friend got married in Turkey by an imam but not in a town hall. Basically, she'll be living with her boyfriend/husband for the next couple of months and they wanted to appease his parents :o)
Just making sure that this wasn't *it*. I kinda want her to at least live with him for a while before the proper thing. |

| I'm not Champy, but I've been to a few weddings in Turkey. All of them had to go to the town hall to make the marrige legal. Although, this was aaaages ago. |

Yes, you have to get married in a town hall. Religious marriages (which are made by imam) are not legal and have no validity.
From that perspective, I see no point at the imam marriages. Don't think many people left in big cities doing that.
Edit: Even if they do it in order to perpetuate the tradition, they have to make the legal marriage too.
Re-edit: Hi! :-) |

Ah ok, now I'm calm again :o) It was just in his parents' living room, but it seems that in their eyes, my friend and their son are married enough to live together lol
Thanks! |
