Hi everyone,
Sad news: Yesterday I got back from a weekend away in the caravan and went upstairst to check on Shellfish Jean. I made the sad discovery that she had passed away. It seems that her last molt had not gone well and she passed away from complications.
I went out today to buy some more hermit crabs to keep Snippet (The friendlier crab as Luna_Loves_Frogs calls here) company. One of them has the same temperment and looks of Shellfish, so I intend to give her the name and the legacy.

Awwww, I'm so sorry to hear that. I didn't know molting could pose a threat. Infection or something?

I don't know what was wrong with molting, either.
Anyway don't be so sad, hope you'll get alright soon. Cheer up!

I think molting creates a load of stress and she just couldn't handle it. It's been an awful 2 weeks animal-wise really. First my older sister's parrot passed away due to bronchitus, then poor little Shellfish and today my other sister got back from her holiday and the kennels phoned to say that last sunday her pet rabbit died.
I'm in serious need of ice cream and chocolate lol |

Thanks everyone.
Been watching the new hermits and one of them seems to be Jean re-incarnated lol. I'm naming her Shellfish Jean Jr.
I'm not sure of names for the other two. One of them is a mini version of Snippet- it's quite scary. Possible names maybe Edward Scissor Claws (Random lol) or something else suitably amusing?
Any ideas? It will take my mind off of the original Shellfish. |

Thanks everyone.
The new crabs have settled in very nicely- keeping me awake like Shellfish used to. I gave them some carrot last night and now their tank is orange lol.
